Field Services Job-Alike Agenda Frequency: Every two weeks, Wednesdays, 1pm CST Jan 19, 2022 Session Topic: Animal handling and capture has always been a complex set of tasks, and our jobs have gotten busier and more complicated in recent years. Our understanding of animal behavior has advanced substantially in the last thirty years and the tools and techniques available to us have changed a bit too. Join instructor John Peaveler as he talks about low impact, low stress animal handling and the latest in tools and techniques. Come prepared to ask questions! The content will be specifically tailored to the participants. Interested in leash poles? Y poles? Dangerous dog handling in shelters? Loading and unloading into/from animal control vehicles? You can drive the direction of this session! Participants will be entered to win $100 worth of equipment from Tomahawk Live Trap. Feb 2, 2022 Session Topic: Animals are clear communicators if you know what to look for and how to listen. Learning to interpret animal body language and vocal cues allows us to be a valuable resource for education and support to the communities we serve. Combine what you observe with basic information about how animals learn and why behavior ‘works’ to address common troubleshooting questions and concerns from community members. We’ll touch on management, methods, proactive training, and redirection during this presentation. Juliette Nash, Community Training Coordinator, San Diego Humane Society Feb 16, 2022 Session Topic: Eric Ridgway, LCPC, NCC, Counselor and Founder of theHuman Connectionwill be joining us for the entire hour. Stay tuned for additional details on this interactive session. Be sure to check out some of these resources in advance of the call: 1.Being Resilient During Difficult Times 2.Animal Social Services and the Human-Animal Bond 3.Overcoming Barriers to Communication 4.Managing Fear Mar 2, 2022 Session Topic: The Dunbar bite scale is the most widely used tool for classifying dog bites to humans. The scale has been very useful as it provides us with a common language when talking about bites. However, the scale primarily focuses on wound pathology, the damage caused by the bite. Because of limitations to the Dunbar scale, the Dog Bite Assessment Working Group met regularly during 2021 to develop an assessment tool that takes more than the damage caused by the bite into account. Join Dr. Sheila Segurson and members of the NACA board as they discuss what this means for officers. Mar 16, 2022 Session Topic: Gina Knepp, Michelson Found Animals Field Services does not have to be a thankless job. Officers across the country are stepping into the realm of pet reunification, resulting not only in keeping people and their pets together, but showing our communities what Officers really do and what they care about. Attendees will get a snapshot of tips and suggestions to make lost animal reunification easier, but also a broader understanding of why it is so important.
